Gordiola in Superyacht Design Magazine

This month edition of the magazine Superyacht Design in its Artisans section bring us an interesting post about our Gordiola blown glass products. They have spent a day into the factory in Mallorca trying to find out how the brand has succeeded relying on its artistry, here others have failed.

Gordiola, has been maintaining its glassmaking tradition alive through seven successive generations of their family.

It was at the beginning of the 18th century, in 1719 in Palma de Mallorca, when Gordiola-Rigal was founded. Since then just little things have changed in the company. It was in 1969 coinciding with the 250 anniversary of the firm, when they moved their facilities into a 3500 square meters new location, that allowed the company to be expanded

Nowadays the company is run by five brothers and sisters, but is Marisa Gordiola the most active in the business She works in collaboration with other designers, and she is the only one who knows the formula that makes up each pigment, knowledge which is just passed through the family.

Every single piece made by Gordiola, from lighting, glassware and tableware to decorative pieces and gifts, is made using only traditional glassblowing techniques. Even in the past there was a time when Gordiola decided to use in the production molds to ensure each piece was perfectly uniform and also quicker and more commercially feasible, as most of the glassmakers did after the industrial revolution, Gordiola returned to their first philosophy and decided to continue blowing glass freehand which is more of an art and a true representation of the artisan, and that provides also an added value compared to other glassmaker companies. A team of four artisans are responsible of Gordiola´s production. This coupled with a limited production gives us some exclusive pieces highly appreciated both in Spain and outside the country. Even royalties such as Queen Sofia or Felipe VI from Spain, Prince Raniero and Grace of Monaco, or  Queen Paola from Belgium have visited their facilities and have been some of the most important brand ambassadors.

Gordiola has their own collections, but they can also work on request, some clients want to make modifications to the collections, some ask for a mix of two of them, that can be done as they are craftsmen and each piece is hand produced. That is why the 35% of the bespoke projects received by the brand are completely new designs.

They have also worked in partnership with prestigious brands to create perfume bottles, wine decanters, olive oil bottles,... but in all the cases very exclusive and unique artisan products.
